Independence Day, 2010

This column publishes every Sunday through Thursday after noon (sometimes even before; maybe even after sundown on busy days) U.S. Central Time except whenever a significant national holiday falls on the Monday through Friday associated with the otherwise-usual publication on the previous day (unless it is Independence Day or Christmas when it is the day on which the holiday is observed by the U.S. government). In my opinion, there are six of these: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas.

With Sunday, Jul. 4 being Independence Day, I invite you to explore the links connected to the link above. (P.S. Through 2008, the White House used to have an excellent page elucidating the relevance and meaning of the holiday. Since 2009, that has vanished.)

Apparently even on Independence Day Jeff Sadow can't subdue his resentful hatred of the other 50% of the country. Conspiracy theorists never rely on meaningful objective information, and instead seek out symbols of unprovable, subjective feeling. That's why Jeff's posts insist that Obama "hates" America by suggesting that he removed references to Independence Day from the White House website (as though we are all waiting on the whitehouse.gov site administrators to give us a green light to celebrate the holiday). It's a new low for Jeff Sadow, not that he is aware of it. Jeff probably thinks that Obama himself arranged to remove Independence Day references for some nefarious anti-American reason. In Jeff's little world, everything plows back into this characterization of Obama as every negative quality he can think of.

As a counterpoint, he states (in reverential terms usually reserved for prophets and the divine) that Bush maintained an "excellent" webpage that "elucidated the relevance and meaning of the holiday." You see, in Jeff's little world, Bush knew a thing or two about freedom, and used his genius to "elucidate" the world on its meaning. It is unfortunate that Jeff can't appreciate how much humor there is when a simpleton who is wont to bleat nationalist slogans pauses for a moment to attempt to wax eloquent about some other disgraced simpleton.

One last thing, Jeff. You appear to have missed the following July 4 posts on Whitehouse.gov. I'm looking forward to your correction in which you retract your despicable insinuation with much apologies.

Two days later and we are still waiting for that elusive correction and apology from Mr. Sadow. It's worth pointing out that my money was on him never admitting a mistake, even when it was the basis of a vile attack. Not that any of you right-wingers have any problem publishing the most ridiculous of claims and never issuing any retraction even when they are clearly demonstrated false. It's because you place yourselves on the pedestal. The infallible Jeff Sadow. Even when he's wrong, he's somehow right.
