Fleming is creating “issues” to launch windmill assaults upon in order to pander to his ovine constituency. (see “transport of weapons aboard AMTRAK”). The “dire need” to preclude the option of non-religious chaplains in the military is laughable. To iterate that chaplains MUST serve some sort of faith-based function is blatantly incorrect. Any chaplain, military or otherwise, would require no inquiry into a person’s personal beliefs in order to be effective. Fleming’s apparent contention that there are no atheists, agnostics, or otherwise reality-based members in the armed forces is, at best short-sighted, and at worst, borders on proselytism.
During my career in the military, I interacted with a number of chaplains; both for personal reasons, as well as to provide counseling to members of my assigned unit that were attempting to cope with their own issues. I have always found these chaplains to be approachable, unbiased listeners with no penchant or tendency to preach the scriptures, gospel, commandments, or whatever other fairy-tales one might expect from a more traditional clergy member. In all of my experiences, these chaplains offered guidance akin to what a qualified guidance counselor, licensed therapist, or psychologist might provide in the civilian community.
But, as with everything else for which John Fleming cherry-picks to fly his flag, I can’t say that I’m surprised.

Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13316762470553119205noreply@blogger.com
