Given all the hype that was generated over abolishing the personal income tax, for Republicans controlling BOTH houses to just let it die like this will, I think, untimately cost them dearly! I also wouldn't want to be a Republican serving in either chamber right now. You have a Governor who has been embarassed and humiliated and, even though some may argue his arrogance and domatic governing style meant he had this coming sooner or later, it changes not the fact that there was indeed substantial support for abolishing the personal income tax. If a few Republicans don't find a way to rekindle the flame of abolishing the income tax, I know I wouldn't want to be a Republican author of a bill in need of Gov. Jindal's signatrue to get it passed this session!! I personally look for vetos to set an all-time record this session! I also think there's significant underlying dischord within the Republican Party and that it is inevitably going to boil over before this session is over, and it's going to be REALLY ugly!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214951.post-3355482996237044632013-04-15T13:39:16.257-05:002013-04-15T13:39:16.257-05:00If the professor manages to cram enough redundant ...If the professor manages to cram enough redundant words into his columns then maybe, just maybe, he can lull you into believing that the failure of Bobby Jindal's latest attempt to burnish his resume is a cultural problem and not the result of a half-assed plan that ignored basic math.

After all, you're the ones who are "parochial" for not wanting to see your taxes go up.

Maybe if Jindal had taken a few days off from CPAC earlier this year he could have crafted a tax plan that had some basis in reality, even if "flattened the income tax" doesn't sound quite as sexy on the national resume as "abolished the income tax".

But the professor is correct that Jindal has "transformed" the political culture: the heavy-handed incompetence of this administration and of its paid and (presumably) unpaid shills in advancing the tax swap has taken the otherwise popular idea of scrapping the income tax and set it back years.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
