They just don't seem to work.

Seems like the best thing government can do for economic development is to develop infrastructure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214951.post-36756139138520987762008-04-02T22:30:00.000-05:002008-04-02T22:30:00.000-05:00You nailed this one Jeff. He needs to accept the salary of his predecessor, and if he actually contributes to changing the business climate in Louisiana, then he can approach the state for a pay raise. Until then, he comes across as greedy. How much practical business experience does Moret bring to the table anyhow?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214951.post-74343967144702901592008-04-02T20:56:00.000-05:002008-04-02T20:56:00.000-05:00Thank you for your post. Anyway, with the grant came a letter that the LA Dept of Economic Development would be following up with further support and resources to ensure the success of small businesses, etc. Of course no further communication has ever followed. Also, the recovery grants and loans ran out of funds long before the need was satsified, and it was pledged at that time that the programs would be continued when further funds were available. Now I read that huge sums are money are being proposed for set aside to attract a major new business? Why do I always feel like the state of Louisiana government always works against its own people?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214951.post-2886312833817285832008-04-02T19:07:00.000-05:002008-04-02T19:07:00.000-05:00Very insightful comments. One is to make a "splash" of some type for media attention...any major economic development plum to fuel the Jindal VP-national attention engine, and secondly as an effort to justify the outlandish salary levels of Moret and friend. Moret took the EC Dev position for both his own political visibility but also to have a seat on the Jindal national stage/elective office train. It's all about image and pursuing some subjective national rating or ranking than actual benefits and long term consequences. It's a very expensive game being played with taxpayer money for individual gains (Moret and Jindal and friends). It's the same old Louisiana game, only this time the personal political gain is not as much money as it is extreme self promotion to a national scale...which if one thinks about it, it makes it all even scarier than the old Edwin Edwards days. One has to wonder what the "end game" might be for Jindal and entourage??

Such a shame, Jindal does seem to have so much true potential to actually be good for long term Louisiana. Let's hope he can earn any recognition, not just keep talking himself into it as he has successfully always done in the past.

~from BegoodAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
